“Experience The Magic”
Here at Luxury Holidays and Honeymoons, we are lucky enough to have an expert agent who specialises in Lapland.
We love to talk to you about Lapland, it's such an exciting trip to discuss. If you've started to look at the many different options for Lapland, there's no doubt you may be very confused! It's commonly thought that Lapland is one place, one destination, until you start your research and you discover there are several resorts! Which one is best for you? That's where we come in.
We will talk to you and find out about your family's needs before helping you make a decision on which Lapland would suit you best. We will get to know you a little better, look at the ages of your children, your expectations, talk to you about the difference in experiences, the difference in climate, the difference in cost and provide you with a detailed explanation of the differences between these resorts and trips.
Some resorts offer benefits to suit younger children, some cater more for older children and teens. Some options are more authentic and traditional, others are based in tourists hubs and perhaps less authentic. Some options are better for Northern lights activity, some offer more intense snow based activities.
Scandanvia is undoubtedly expensive, it's important you’re booked on the right trip to include the best package to suit your needs, to avoid any nasty surprises when you get there!
We will help prepare you for your destination, ensuring you've thought of everything to make this magical, once in a lifetime experience one that will be remembered by your family forever. We offer many different options, we can book group tours, day trips, extended trips, private tours, tailor made itineraries exclusive to you and your family.

South Lapland, very commercial, touristy, lots of amenities and activities on your doorstep. Hotel based accommodation with Santa who sometimes visits the hotel, the Santa can be less authentic and less of a special experience. Some of the resorts do offer a less commercial feel with the option for a private Santa meeting. This is the cheapest option, but one of the reasons for this is because the activities are taster sessions (lasting just a few minutes long). These areas of Lapland are less authentic but can sometimes be suitable for young children due to the milder climate and the length of the activities. Great variety of hotels to choose from, most come on a B&B or a half board option, because of this and because of the commercial areas (shops etc) you are more likely to spend money while you're there. Some of these resorts are fantastic options for those keen on skiing and some resorts offer a fantastic night live vibe if you're looking for a lively atmosphere. You can choose from a duration between 2 - 7 nights, the longer the duration the more expensive it is. These packages depending on hotel quality, dates and board basis can range from £2000 - £5000. Some families find this package enough and are more than happy with what it includes and find the taster sessions adequate, other families especially those who are not pre-warned, feel very disappointed and let down when they realise the length of the excursions and the non authentic vibe. The flights are scheduled, so they are available for many dates throughout December, lots of availability.
The middle of the road in terms of commercial and authentic. The area is not as remote as the Northern resorts, but not as far South as the resorts above. Because of this there is a good chance of seeing the Northern Lights as well as your Santa experience. Good quality hotel accommodation from basic up to luxury. The package includes all excursions including a trip to see Santa on a sleigh. The Santa experience is far more traditional and authentic than the South resorts. Activities are available in the hotel at well as the excursions, some hotels also have a swimming pool, kids entertainment etc. The excursions are a much longer duration than the option above, so the value for money is better. This is a good quality Lapland package to suit children of all ages from 2 year up to adult. All packages come standard on half board so your breakfast and evening meals are all covered, meaning you wouldn't need much spending money. These packages range from around £4000 - £8000 depending on the quality of the hotel, the dates and the duration. The option on this package is 2 or 3 nights, the flights are chartered so they are only available exclusively for the experience, therefore are only available on very specific dates. This experience can sell out a year in advance, so early booking is highly recommended. Deposits are £150pp. Departs from most regional and international airports.
Western Finland - Another traditional, authentic option, a little remote village tucked away in the Northern Finnish wilderness. A chance to discover pure, raw Lapland in the best way. Suitable for children of all ages from 2 years up to adults. This resort is another Northern Lights hub and offers excellent chances of experiencing the Northern Lights whilst experiencing Santa's Lapland. Typically offered for a 3 night duration, however Kittila can be tailor made to suit your dates, taste and budget. Prices start from around £6000 for a family of 4 with everything included, packages come on a full board basis. The snowmobile excursion is included in this package with the unique option for children to drive their own mini snowmobile! You are taken by sledge to meet Santa in his cabin. Authentic, timber based Scandinavian accommodation with a touch of luxury, some hotel rooms have a private sauna. The hotel even has its own husky farm on site! This package comes on full board. If you're looking for that once in a lifetime bucket list experience and you have a budget of over £5000, this is a fantastic authentic option with excellent Northern Lights activity. Deposits vary but typically start from £150pp. Departs from international airports.
Northern Finland. Situated just below the Arctic Circle, this resort is based on the official Northern Route with optimal chances of experiencing the Northern Lights as well as your Santa experience. The resort is set in the wilderness, deep in the heart of true Lapland, in a very rural, untouched area of Lapland. Within walking distance you can actually walk across the Finnish and Swedish border. You will find a village shop within walking distance and a little church. The hotel has a spa, a hot tub and all packages come on a full board basis which includes all meals as well as your excursions. This is ideal, as you wont need much spending money, only enough to cover any drinks. There are options here to stay in a glass igloo at the Reindeer reserve or to stay in a real snow igloo, you can also add on ice fishing and sightseeing excursions. The package comes standard with lots of lengthy excursions which are very high quality and includes the snowmobile excursion (children ride in a sleigh, adults get to ride the snow mobile). Your family will go on search for Santa's cabin by reindeer sleigh where you will meet Santa in his Forest cabin for a private meeting for just your family. This experience is by far the most authentic and traditional, with a more 'real' looking Santa, longer excursions and best area to experience the Northern Lights. The cost is relatively similar to the package above but in addition it covers all meals whereas the package above includes half board only. There is only one hotel option here, you can choose to stay in the main hotel in a standard room, or you can opt for a semi detached log cabin which has a private sauna. Depending on the dates you choose, the cost would vary from around £3500 - £4500 (closer to Christmas the more expensive it gets). What I like about this package is the inclusions, so much included you would need minimal spending money. This resort can sell out over a year in advance, especially for the log cabins, to secure it's £200pp deposit. This resort is not suitable for children under 2 years years old, and children under 4 need to be robust enough to handle the probability of the cold, severe weather in Northern Finland. This is a magical option for those families who want to pay for a great experience who are not concerned about shopping etc and who would rather a classic, authentic, raw Lapland experience. The resort turns into a Northern Lights base in January through to March for the adults Lapland experience, if the Northern Lights are top on the bucket list alongside Santa, this resort is heavily worth considering, it is by far the best resort for Northern Light viewing. As much as this resort is suitable for all over 2 years, it is particularly suitable for older children and teenagers, in January becomes a Northern Lights haven for teenagers and adults to experience rural Lapland and the activities it has to offer Santa aside. Departs from most regional and international airports, direct flights.
The city of Luosto is a bright, vibrant area of Lapland with fantastic Northern Lights activity. On this package you will be taken to a small, remote resort for a true cultural and authentic experience. Santa's experience here is truly magical and traditional. Very much activity based, this area of Lapland offers fantastic snow activities. Packages can be carried out on the taster sessions or opt for the full package with full excursions. A lovely option for children of all ages above 2 years old, with the chance to experience real Scandinavian culture in the remote Swedish wilderness. This trip can be combined with a stop in Rovaniemi to combine the bright lights and Christmas colours of the busier resort. Ideal option for those wanting that rural feel but also wanting to experience the commercial side of Lapland. This trip can be tailor made to suit your dates and taste. Packages start from around £3500 for a family of 4 and can come as half or full board. This is a great option to tailor make your Lapland experience and to add on lots of optional excursions, also a really good choice for those wanting to extend their Lapland stay as durations can be very flexible. Deposits vary but start from £150pp. Departs from most international airports.
This option is great for families who maybe don't have the budget to go to Lapland for longer than a day and also for families who don't have the flexibility to stay in Lapland, you leave the UK early in the morning to arrive in Lapland early afternoon, all of your activities are carried out during the one day including your private family meeting with Santa. You're then taken back to the airport late afternoon to fly back to the UK landing late evening. The chances of seeing the Northern Lights are not impossible as it gets dark in Lapland during the winter months around 3pm, but the chances are far less than if you stay in Lapland. This can be a busy day, with the activities shortened because of the lack of time, but the cost is significantly lower and the experience is still worth the travelling. Day trips depart regionally from most airports throughout December and prices start from around £1700 per family of 4. Day trips are offered in Saariselka and Karesuando. Deposits are £200pp. Departs from most regional and international airports, direct flights.

No, all packages will include the loan of thermal gear, you may want to buy your own hat, gloves, scarf and be prepared to travel in a thick jacket and decent walking boots in preparation for leaving the aircraft.
Depending on the resort you choose and the package, if your package covers all of your food, you just need to budget for drinks and any gifts you may want to buy. If you choose a package without food included, you need to be prepared to include a substantial amount of spending money for food and drinks, an estimate would be £50 - £70 per person per day (Scandinavia is very expensive, this is why we recommend a food inclusive package).
Yes, we can provide packages with accommodation that can sleep 6 people, we can also look at booking several rooms or cabins next to each other for the extra large family or group size.
Lapland isn't really suitable for children under 2 years, it's too cold, when spending on Lapland, you should really consider the memory, a very young child will enjoy the experience at the time, but is unlikely to remember it forever. Children age 3 up seem to get the most from Lapland. Lapland is a truly magical experience not just for children of any age but for adults too, we can tailor your package so that everyone in your party enjoys the experience, children and adults alike. Lapland is loved by all, including teenagers, who love the snow activities.
Should you struggle with mobility difficulties, one of the resorts in the South may suit you better, where the snow is not so deep and the terrain easier to manage, please contact us for more advice so that we can advise accordingly.
As you can see from the options above, there is no easy answer to this question, it depends heavily on the type of experience you want. If you're looking for a budget experience the day trip is a good option, this can be done for less than £500pp. If you do have your heart set on staying in Lapland, the first option above is the best budget friendly option, you could opt for a self catering or B&B option which will reduce the total cost, but you need to keep in mind that you will need a fair amount of spending money. The budget option includes Santa and taster activities, so if you are aware of this and your expectations are inline, the budget option will still be one to remember. A family of 4 can expect to pay £2000 minimum for the lowest cost package. Lapland varies incredibly in cost, for those looking for the ultimate experience, something a bit different or a touch of luxury, you could budget between £6000 - £10,000 for a family of 4. If you're wanting an experience to include the full length excursions, with a good standard of accommodation and a trip to remember with a moderate budget, you can expect to pay around £3500.
December is the most magical time to visit during the week leading up to Christmas, although this is also the most expensive time to go. Some families want to experience that extra bit of magic and opt to stay in Lapland actually over Christmas, this is a lovely option but isn't for everyone. The cheapest time to go is at the end of November and the beginning of December, prices typically increase the closer to Christmas you get.
As early as you possibly can, Lapland books up really far in advance, so if you're looking for the best deal and the best choice, early booking is highly recommended, we can book some resorts up to 2 years in advance, others 12 months in advance. Half price child deals are also loaded very early and snapped up very quickly. Deposits will vary form £150 pp - £200 pp.
We are experts in Lapland, we are not your average travel agency, we offer much more. We know each resort inside and out and can recommend which resort and package would best suit you. We offer 24 hour on call support, so you are never alone. We offer complete financial protection so your money is safe. Deposits can be paid by debit/credit card or by bank transfer. Once your trip is booked and the deposit has paid, you will be emailed a receipt of payment and your booking confirmation. We can, at request, arrange a payment plan to clear the balance which will need to be paid around 12 weeks prior to departure.
